Black Canyon Trail

Ann and Greg hiked 8.5 miles along the Black Canyon Trail.  The trailhead is located in Black Canyon City.  I have hiked this trail with them before (did not do 8.5 miles, however) and I especially love the opportunities to create awesome panoramas but also take interesting photos of smaller items.  This is the perfect time of year to hike this trail.  Greg said to look for our mascot, Lefty.

It looks like the trees along the river have not turned to their fall colors.  They can be pretty spectacular when they do.  If I recall correctly, however, you have to hike quite a ways before you see them.

Nice leading line.

Sure glad I did not find Lefty here!

Or here!

A prayer for more of this.

Very clever Ann.

Ah, time to rest.  Ya'll go on.  I'll stay here and guard the pass.

So many thanks for sharing your hike with the rest of us.  Mom will love the images!  I hope you stopped at Rock Springs for pie after your hike.  For the fellow photographers who keep track of these sorts of things . . . Ann's photos were taken with either her iPhone 6s or her Canon Powershot G16.  Greg's were taken with a Nikon D750 and a Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 lens.

Boyce Thompson

Greg sent a note along with his photos. "Best thing about this trip was shooting with Tom and sharing a burger @ Porter's."  I miss shooting with both of them.  I am so grateful they shared.

Looks like there are lots of photo opportunities at Boyce Thompson, even though there is no fall color left.  Thanks guys for sharing!

An Afternoon Trip

Ninety minutes of shooting time, thirty miles of photography in five locations with shots selected and edited in under sixty minutes when Tom got home!  He left Phoenix late, arriving at the Gold Mine in Jerome at 3:30.  The whole place was already in shadows, except for a few areas.  He shot in those areas quickly before moving on to Sedona, stopping several places along the way.  Hoping to catch a bit more sunlight before it set, he drove away from the mountains and headed east.  Near Sedona, he turned right onto Red Rock Loop Road, past the turnoff to Red Rock Crossing, coming back out on 89A at the school.  He shot on two locations along the road before finding a nice overlook for Cathedral Rock.

This trip reminded me of the pace we set in Ireland.  Daragh called it guerrilla photography.  It is a challenge, made more so in this case by facing the limited time of sunlight that was left.
